The price of prescription medications keeps going up. For most people on Medicare, income doesn’t. Medications keep you healthy, and paying for them shouldn’t drain your budget. Two steps put you in a stronger position.
STEP 1: Review your Part D plan every year
Not every Part D plan covers the same medications, and not all plans are contracted with every pharmacy. Review your plan every year to make sure your medications are covered, and your pharmacy is in network. A MAP counselor helps you compare plans at no cost.
STEP 2: See if Extra Help lowers your costs
Even with the right Part D plan, medications get expensive. Extra Help is a federal program for Oklahomans on a fixed income. It reduces the costs of Medicare prescription drug coverage:
• Your monthly Part D premium, up to a regional limit
• Your medication copays
• Your yearly deductible ($0 with Extra Help)
Do I qualify?
You qualify automatically if any of these apply:
✓ You have both Medicare and full Medicaid benefits
✓ You get Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
✓ You're enrolled in a Medicare Savings Program
If none of those apply, you might still qualify. If you live on a fixed income, don’t rule yourself out. Income and resource guidelines change every year, and more Oklahomans qualify than they know. Applying costs nothing and can save you money!
